I headed out to my deer stand early because everything was feeling right for an evening hunt. I got to my stand, slung my gun across my back, and climbed up the ladder. I got all situated and comfy. I put everything in its place and waited in the silence as the evening sun slowly made its way across the sky heading for the trees at the end of a small clearing.
I sat there all evening with no action and then a hog walked out at the end of the clearing. I watched it for a few minutes and I took the shot…one hog down…sat about 5-10 more minutes and four more walked out. It was all most dark…daylight was burning away…I got one more shot left… I adjusted the scope on my gun to have a clear shot. One, just one more shot, and then the craziest thing happened…..
The end of my scope fell off into my lap…
I couldn’t see anything… what do I do? I tried to find all the parts and put it back together but wait where’s the pin… couldn’t find it…this is my go-to gun…my little friend… what just happened… ???
Yep!!! I couldn’t believe it, the end of my scope just fell off. There was no fixing it. I couldn’t believe my luck.
What is a girl to do when her favorite gun is out of commission because the scope is broken? Buy a new scope of course!!!
So I went shopping. I ‘looked’ through several and finally decided on a Vortex Viper.
When I got home, I took my gun apart and cleaned it good. I was setting on the floor in the living room with my tools and gun parts all spread out, giggling to myself, “bet this isn’t what my math teacher was talking about when she said I would need ‘Triggernometry’. It is strange what goes through my head sometimes but it was funny and I needed a laugh.
I re-assembled the gun and added by new big scope.
It’s huge but I can sure see through this baby!!! I have a youth rifle because it fits me better and when I added the big scope well, let’s just say “it’s all scope” but it looks tough and it shoots great.
I could have just let the incident get me down but instead, I took the opportunity to improve my situation. I bought a new scope and man is nice. It looks good on my gun too. All I need now is for that trophy buck to walk out. And when it does, you will be the first to know. I’m hoping that ‘Triggernometry’ pays off.
