My Nanny (grandmother) is a great cook. And every day with her is an adventure.
She can make something out of nothing and often does. She grew up in hard times in a large family and then married my paw paw when she was young and had three children of her own. She now has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I’ve seen her go to the kitchen and make something different for each one if they ask. She’s a beautiful lady inside and out.
She makes biscuits, fried chicken and so very much more. She loves her family and for some reason, she loves to go on adventures with me. No matter what I’ve gotten her into before, she is still game for anything. All I have to do is ask. She’s usually involved in most of my stories so be sure to read about our adventures in the ”Story’ section. She’s a hoot let me tell you. Game for almost anything.
I have many stories about her and could talk about her all day. I love my Nanny. But this post is about Salsa.
She likes to have a little garden each year and we try to help her with whatever she wants to do. A few years ago she decided to make homemade salsa. We got out her big pot and we cleaned tomatoes, chopped this and that, and worked until she made one she liked. It was so good in fact that we have continued to make it each year since.
During the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, we were feeding a line crew after a hard day of work. These guys and gal were from down near Brownsville, Texas and they wanted some Gumbo. (See the story) My Nanny brought a jar of salsa for them to try with some chips. Now I’m thinking they probably know their salsa because they are from down near the border. But to my surprise they liked it so much they asked to take the rest of the jar back with them. She makes some good salsa.
Maybe one day you can taste some but until then just look at all that beautiful sweet-looking salsa. Think about dipping a chip in it and tasting that tomato goodness and know that it’s really good. Take my word for it.
