Wow! Did we have a great time on our fishing weekend? Just call us, ” Double Trouble” because with me and my little mini-me fishing together, the fish didn’t stand a chance. Or at least they wouldn’t have had they been biting instead of hiding from the hurricane.
With Hurricane Delta bearing down on Louisiana and expected to hit our area late on Friday evening, Aves and I bailed out early for a weekend of fishing in Seadrift, Texas with Castaway Lodge.
We made a stop-off in Spring, Texas for the night to stay with a family friend and talk about some future hunting and fishing trips. Then it was off to our destination on Friday afternoon. If you’ve ever been to Houston, then you know it took “forever” to get through and out the other side.
Whew!!!! I hate Houston traffic.
We were running late. I called Mr. Kris at Castaway, told him what was up and he said no problem. They had everything ready for our arrival and would hold dinner for us. And they did. Ms. Wendi had ice tea ready and waiting. She asked how I wanted my steak, cooked it to perfection, served it up with steamed veggies, a baked potato, and a beautiful salad. Yummy!!! It was so good!!! Averi opted for the chicken nuggets, but after tasting my steak, she said, “I should have ordered the steak, mom!”
The Kelley’s showed us around their beautiful lodge and grounds. Loved the outdoor spaces. Check out my post on Castaway Lodge. The tour ended with them showing us to our rooms. They had put us next to their home so we would be close if we needed anything. Awe!!! These guys were so great.
The next morning we went to the huge breakfast buffet and Averi ate like a little pig. Sausage gravy and biscuits are one of her favorite things and she wolfed it down. (maybe not as a grown wolf but at least like a wolf puppy). Then our guide for the day, Mr. Jeff, picked us up at our door and took us down to the docks. We headed out to open water and the sunrise was breathtaking. It’s amazing how beautiful the world can be after a storm.
We hoped to catch our limit in Reds and then head over to catch some speckled trout. The sky was beautiful but the hurricane had really churned the waters up and the fish were just not biting. We moved to several different spots and Averi finally caught her limit with me catching only one. But they were really nice sized and we had no complaints. Later when Mr. Kris apologized because of the catch, I told him, “that’s why they call in fishing, not catching”. Aves and I like to catch but we don’t mind fishing. Look at those happy faces.
Averi did catch a nice-sized crab and we had fun taking pictures with it. By the end of the day, Mr. Jeff had gotten to know Averi a little more and was a little more comfortable with her fishing by herself and her attitude. She giggled at one point and asked him if he even knew how to fish? After all, she was the only one catching anything. He got a great laugh out of that. All and all we had a great day because we just enjoy fishing.
We made it back to shore at about four o’clock. We took a few more pictures, thanked them all for such a wonderful time, and headed for home. Promising to come back soon. It was a wonderful adventure and even though catching a lot of fish would have been great, just getting to fish and spending time together “making memories and having a great adventure” was enough for us. We had a fantastic time!!!
