From fresh deer meat (venison) to veggies from the garden, I love homemade, homegrown, hunting, fishing, and bringing home the bacon goodness.

Knowing where my food comes from and processing it myself is always a good feeling.  It is not just about the trophy; it’s about feeding my family good wholesome food as well! I love being able to use the meat.

Of course, the thrill of seeing that great big buck with a huge rack and knowing he is going home with me today is a “greeeaaat” feeling too. And I don’t mind catching the biggest fish either.  But at the end of the day, I don’t want it to go to waste, which means sometimes letting it pass on by or throwing it back.

However, I also don’t mind fresh pork.  So when the opportunity presented itself for me to bag a pig, I was happy to do so.

I stopped by my parent’s farm to get a little help with the skinning. Fresh pork chops, pork roast, and sausage are delicious.  And when I got a small buck, I cut up the meat and put it in the freezer.

Whether it is deer or fish, I enjoy knowing that it is fresh with a minimum amount of preservatives. And there are so many ways to cook wild game. Like grinding it up with a little fresh pork to make great burgers and more.

My family loves backstrap and biscuits or roast. And grilled fish or fresh sausage is always welcome at the table.  So as often as possible I purchase or raise home goods:  beef, pork, veggies, syrups, jellies, jams, and more.

I love cooking and canning fresh food.  I feel it is the best and my family deserves that.

What’s your favorite recipe or dish?  Fried chicken, deer roast, grilled redfish, fresh eggs?  Leave me a comment below. I look forward to reading them ya’ll. I like new ideas.
