Every day is an adventure when you are me. I never know what the next day holds so I greet each morning with a big smile and say, “Bring it on. Good or bad I got this.”
I’m Kayla “Rae” Ellzey. I’m a hardworking, outdoor-loving, tall tale telling lady with a getter done or die attitude that gets me into some strange situations. Some good and some not so good but it almost always has the elements of a good story.
Who am I? Basically, I’m just me. My real job (the one that pays) is as a physician’s assistant for a local podiatrist. But I’d rather be fishing.
My latest endeavor is starting this blog to share some of my crazy stories and experiences about all the things I love. And that’s a long list. I like adventure. Seeing new things, experiencing new places, and eating good food. From the Pine Forests of Central Louisiana to a walk-in Central Park and everything in between.
Those who know me say I’m a teller of tall tales. All my tales are true, although some seem a little unbelievable. I’ll try to give you the short version because I tend to get excited and try to squeeze in all the details. And as they say, if the tale involves a tractor it’s means trouble.
I love setting in the woods watching the sun come up and the world come alive. I don’t hunt for trophies to hang on my wall, but I love to hunt. I believe in eating what you kill so if I can’t take it home, I try to give it to someone who needs it. Whitetail deer, hogs, squirrels, you name it I like to hunt it.
And I like fishing too. Being on the water, pulling in a big blue cat after a struggle is a win for me even if it’s catch and release. Fishing on the lake, the river, in the gulf, a pond, or from the creek bank is so exciting. Whew! Gosh! I love it.
Louisiana is known as “Sportsman’s Paradise”. And it is. If you can’t find something to do here, then you aren’t trying, and the food is to die for. No one else makes food like the south. I like cooking and eating almost as much as hunting and fishing. Grilling up some redfish or steaks with my family and friends is almost heaven.
And the thing I love more than all of this, is my sweet baby, Averi. When she says to me, “Mom, Let’s go on an adventure!” It’s like music to my ears. She loves to enjoy the outdoor life as much as I do.
Look around my site. Read some of my “Tall Tales”, check out some of the awesome outfitters, guides, and all-around good people I’ve shared my adventures with, and make sure to stop back often for some new tales. You never know what I am going to be up to next.
Every day is a new chance to experience God’s country and the beautiful world the Lord has made so I hope you’ll join me. And “Let’s Go On An Adventure”.
